Foster for Save One Soul

Thank you for considering to become a foster care provider for Save One Soul. As you know, fostering truly saves lives. We can only take animals into our care, if we have committed foster homes in place for the animals to stay.

The nature of our mission, which is to help unowned or shelter pets in need of veterinary care, requires the availability of fosters:
While in foster care, the animals receive veterinary care (funded by Save One Soul). They also get acclimated to a normal home life, and receive follow-up treatments, including routine veterinary care, thus allowing us to facilitate adoption into a loving and permanent home.

Why foster Dogs?

Without veterinary care and foster homes, the dogs that fit our criteria will face a very uncertain future.

Fostering a dog can be one of the most rewarding experiences you may ever have! You can enjoy the companionship of a dog needing a temporary home, and vice versa. It is one of the best feelings to see a dog's condition improve and be part of it.

Fostering can also help you learn about canine behavior and social interactions. Dogs can provide so much comic relief!

As the foster partner, you're the one you know the most about the dog's personality. This knowledge is incredibly important when looking to find a wonderful forever home. You'll play a big role in helping us find the best home for your foster dog.

If you already have a dog, fostering can help keep your dogs young and sociable by providing your pooch with a companion and playmate.

How to become a Foster Partner

Prior to fostering any animals, you must complete Save One Soul’s foster agreement, and go through the entire approval process, including a reference check and a home visit. The approval process is very thorough and can take a couple of weeks to complete.

If you have dogs on your own, we verify with your veterinarian that your dogs are up to date on their vaccinations for: parvo, distemper, rabies and bordatella. Titer tests, showing adequate protection, are also acceptable. Providing your dog with flea and heartworm protection shows responsible dog ownership, and we do therefore check into this as part of our routine approval process.

It is our goal to make each and every single foster experience a great one. We will do everything in our power to support our foster care givers.

To start fostering for Save One Soul, please coomplete a foster application now, even if we do not have a foster pet available at the given time. This allows you to be pre-approved into the foster program, a status that we consider to be a badge of honor.

Afraid of Foster Failures?

Giving up a pet is always a bitter sweet moment. Most certainly, you will miss the foster pet, and the pet will always remain in your heart. At the same time, it is an exhilarating feeling, knowing that you have done your part to help this pet. Without you, the pet may have been euthanized...
Since you will play a role in the placement of the pet, you may be able to follow-up with the adopter.

In 2002, Mercy came to us as a foster dog.
She had demodectic mange, a highly treatable condition.
We fostered her until she received a clean bill of health.
Unfortunately, she was returned, and the mange returned.
This is when we decided to adopt her, and she has been a happy and healthy member of our pack ever since.
